Rajesh Desai

Rajesh Desai works hard to develop paintings that speak both to him and to others. This is evident from his last solo exhibition: Glorious Times-Lonar that spoke about the beauty that exists in the ruins of ancient societies. Lonar is a place in India where there are round 15 temples dated back to the 7th Century with some in good condition and others in not such good shape. Researching and reading as much as possible before attempting The Glorious Times helped him create the right atmosphere on the canvas, which was all part of the process of making the ancient stones speak and come back to life.

“I try with every finished work to breathe life in to a long forgotten culture so that its designs, ideas, innovations and lifestyle are displayed on my canvas,” says Rajesh. “My artwork speaks not only for me but for those people who were long ago silenced.”

Recently Rajesh has re-ignited his old passion for landscapes. This passion made him wander around his country in search of people and places that are filled with color and he created several paintings from his own photographs which stopped time and held it in a particular moment. Some of the landscapes are of the Indian villages engulfed in lush green woods and others are of the seascapes which makes one understand how endless our planet Earth is. They are composed in a way that the viewer will feel at ease and peace with every one of them, inviting you in, to be a part of them and transport you to a land of beauty and peace.

Rajesh has always been a fan of watercolors and although finding it a challenging medium is able to deftly capture the moods of the flowers. He has also exhibited several paintings throughout the years which depict his love for God who he believes created these magnificent things for us. “Every flower speaks to you and even you can feel their smile,” says the artist.
